Description:

OE is seeking pre-proposals and full proposals to support its mission, consistent with NOAA=s Strategic Plan (http://www.spo.noaa.gov/strplan.htm), to search, investigate, and document unknown and poorly known areas of the ocean and Great Lakes through interdisciplinary exploration, and to advance and disseminate knowledge of the ocean environment and its physical, chemical, biological, and historical resources. Successful OE proposals will be relatively high-risk, innovative and broad-based in terms of their approach and objectives. OE is soliciting proposals whose objectives fall within one of four different categories: Deep Corals, the Arctic, Archaeology, and General Exploration. NOAA anticipates a reduced appropriation to the OE program this year. Total funds available through this announcement, including shiptime costs, are estimated at approximately $5,000,000. The majority of funds are anticipated to be targeted for the Deep Corals and Arctic categories. Submissions that do not directly fall within the Deep Corals, Arctic, and Archaeology categories described in the full announcement should be submitted within the General Exploration category. Submissions focusing solely on technology development and education submissions will not be accepted. Total funding available for General Exploration submissions is estimated at $900,000. Total funding available for Archaeology is estimated at $200,000. Applicants are encouraged to visit the Ocean Explorer Website: http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov to familiarize themselves with past and present OE-funded activities. The application kit will be accessible at http://www.explore.noaa.gov/opportunity/welcome.html.
